The island vibes from Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring/Summer 2016 Runway Show was the most unforgettable event during my fashion week trip in New York. Walking in the darkness from the entrance, just one minute after a left turn through a few palm trees, I realized the powdery beach sand was underneath my Alexander Wang heels.
It is real! The girl next to me gasped.
As soon as I looked up, I saw a long boardwalk circumscribing a lagoon, with a Tiki bar at the back and Bob Marley soundtrack playing in the background, definitely feeling the Caribbean atmosphere at the moment.
Coconut water, please!
Prior the show, it was not hard to spot those spectacular soccer tracksuits done in crochet insets on many fashionistas outside and inside the show, just like this one that Behati Prinsloo was wearing.
The entire collection was filled with the ease of island life: billowing chiffon dresses in lush flora and fauna prints, knitted bucket hats in vibrant stripes, separates in tropical hued patchwork, polos done in netted mesh, and oxford shirts with crochet embroidery.
It just reminds me of the good times in Cuba.
|And of course, the tropical fever wasn't just on the clothes; it can be found on accessories as well! This includes the roomy beach totes, woven or beaded bracelets, sneaker mules and layered espadrilles in floral prints and sunny colored stripes.|
Just as Gigi Hadid led the other models storming the water in the finale, everyone raised up their cell phones or cameras high in the air, shick, shick, shick, clicking the shutter away to capture these island goddesses.
Island hopping, let's go?
